About the Event
Alexis C. Lamb (she/her) is a composer, percussionist, and educator whose work seeks to cultivate a connectedness to natural, historical, and societal relationships. This interactive performance will pay homage to composer Pauline Oliveros and the impact her music has had on Alexis’s work through improvisation, sound embodiment, sonic meditations, and attention versus awareness. Participants are encouraged to bring a sound that is meaningful to them to explore during the event.
A simple soup supper will be provided by Canterbury House following the presentation.
Every religious tradition has a relationship with silence. Even a secular perspective on the world can find studies noting the benefits of meditation and mindfulness.
Come join a diverse and growing community of people who have in common an interest in engaging the practice of silence in a group setting. We meet every Thursday at 7 PM at Canterbury House to sit in silence, explore sound as it relates to our contemplative practices, and eat dinner together. Our weekly community decides the details of how we spend our time (what music we may experiment with, length of silence, etc) together and will likely shift over time as we find a rhythm.
