(0,1) is the partner piece to a similar theme and variations solo for Bb soprano clarinet entitled (1,2). This piece was written for clarinetist Alex Hecker, who has championed (1,2) at multiple festivals, conferences, and other performances. They requested another comparable piece for bass clarinet that would exemplify its extreme ranges and abilities, while still maintaining a playful mood.
